WATER EXTENSIONS
The Town of Gilbert has currently completed most of the work involved in extending water to Tamcliffe, Slabtown, and Paynter Bottom. There is a new storage tank which will supply water to these new customers and add some pressure to those on the current water line near the new tank. The water should be turned on very soon (September, 2010) for these extended customers.
The Town is currently seeking user agreements for those customers that wish to be added to public water in Horsepen, Browning Fork and to the Post Office of Gilbert Creek. Call Town Hall at 304-664-9625 for any questions. Also, easements are being signed for water service in these areas. You will be contacted by town employees if you are requested to sign an easement.
Stafford's Branch customers have recently had new 6" water lines installed which replaced the older lines. FEMA funding paid for the majority of these improvements where lines were washed out during the May, 2009 flooding and more in June, 2010 flooding.
Public water is a necessity for growth and development in any community. Insurance rates should decrease with the installation of fire hydrants. The Town of Gilbert is very pleased to be able to add customers to its base. Grants and funding are being applied for to add upper Gilbert Creek but the water plant will need a major upgrade to handle any more customers.
The Town has recently requested funding for public sewage to Justice, Slabtown, Tamcliffe and Paynter Bottom areas. These areas now have public water and the second phase is to add sewage to the areas where public water has been implemented. The sewage plant for the Town of Gilbert is currently being upgraded and improved with a $63,000. mitigation grant.

Please read the following Charleston Gazette article concerning rate increases of American Water. The Town of Gilbert strives to keep lower rates for its customers and is very reasonably priced in comparison to other water utility providers. Systems are in trouble in the State of WV, but Gilbert is continuing to provide excellent service to its customers. The Public Service District has come to Gilbert by request of the Mayor to teach town officials more efficient methods to operate the water and sewage utilities. A Utility Board has been formed and meets the second Monday of each month at Town Hall, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
